ELEANOR

The room fell into an awkward silence and some members of the pack dropped their jaws. Alexander was gazing into my eyes the whole freaking time, and it was making it extremely difficult for me to focus and formulate a feasible plan.

“May I have a word with your daughter? In private?” He requested. A small gasp escaped my lips which I kept solely to myself.

Dad gave me another threatening glare before he nodded and moved himself out of the way. Alexander motioned his hand for me to follow him to a more private place. As soon as we got into an enclosed space, in a guest room I believe, the Greek God pivoted to face me.

"Hey. It's okay.” He started.

“Huh?” What do you mean it's okay? I cocked my head, pulling my brows together closely.

He then crossed his arms over his chest before taking one huge step, looming closer towards me, making me gulp and bit my tongue unintentionally.

A stinging pain flashed inside my mouth, but I bit that pain before I let out an unwanted whimper. “I know why you're refusing to come with us,” He claimed as if in a matter of fact tone. His words sending panic and fear course through me without warning. I lifted my brow, biting my lip when my heart hammered wildly against my chest.

Pull yourself together, Eleanor!

I lifted my head up before eyeing him directly. Painting a confident smile on my face, I asked.

"And what would that be, Alpha?” The words coming out my mouth like silk.

He paused for a second, looking at me straight in the eye.

"You're afraid I'd treat you horribly because you have no wolf" He said with confidence.

Of course that's what he is going to think.

Only that it's not really the case here.

“In my pack, I let my people treat every one with kindness and respect. Regardless if you have a wolf or not" He gives me an enchanting smile that made my heartbeat even worse.

I kept my silence, pursing my lips together tightly. The frustration of needing to keep the fact that I really have a wolf a secret was starting to weigh in on me.

He placed his hand on top of my shoulder lightly, I wanted to shudder.

“You're not the only wolfless person in my pack. So you can stop with the anxiety.” He said in a comforting tone I decided I could get used to.

But what he said made my ears perk up in surprise.

I force a smile and didn’t want to further the conversation. I simply nodded, trying to be that obedient child that will soon become a traitor knowing I would still want to refuse being given to him as a gift. I'm not just something my parents could give away to just anyone as they please. And if I have to endure Mike's dreadful beatings every single day thereafter then so be it.

When we got back to the meeting room in silence my father had asked for me to talk in another room.

I sigh. Here we go again.

Why do people keep pushing me to a corner today? I'm about to lose my mind when Dad abruptly snapped me back into reality.

He gripped my cheeks tightly with his one hand, gritting his teeth as he spoke. His eyes reflected a deep rage and murderous intent in them, making my curls toe and body tremble violently in fear. “If you EVER say no to me again especially in public, in front of the enemy at that, I will see to it that you can NEVER use your lips for the rest of your worthless life, do you understand?”

I widened my eyes in shock seeing my Dad handle me with so much force for the first time since birth. You could tell I wasn't used to this because I was unconsciously trying to rip my father's hands away from my face. My eyes widening in disbelief.

“I said, do you understand?!

I quickly nodded my head in response hoping he would let go of my face. His grip was starting to hurt.

He then released me harshly and looked at me dead in the eye.

“Do NOT ruin this for me, Eleanor. I have raised you well since you became a curse so that you could fulfill your purpose in this very moment. This is what I've been preparing you for!” He pointed a finger at me threateningly.

“But Dad... I'm your daughter” I laughed frustratingly at the end of that sentence, like I couldn't believe the words that were coming from my father's mouth.

"Aren“t I?” I let those words out in a soft whisper.

It was my final attempt to see if my father really did change into an awful person and I wasn't dreaming.

My eyes grew bigger the next second.

"Dad, please... I'll be killed” I said in pure disbelief.

“If you don't go, I'll make sure you will.”

The coldness in his voice almost turned my heart into ice, breaking it apart slowly but surely. I loved this man, he was my father. Yet he was selling me off to the enemy to his advantage.

I dropped my head to the floor. Closing my eyes in defeat.

We went back to the meeting room without saying another word. My father stood at the center and put on a fake smile for every one looking at us suspiciously.

“For centuries our packs have faced countless wars that ended lives of some and destroyed hearts of many. Now it is time to stop the cycle from repeating once again” All eyes turned on me.

“I'm proud of my daughter for accepting her role to tie and unite our packs together.” Everyone clapped for me, but I know they couldn't really care less. Right now, I bet they are even thinking good riddance.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Sabrina throw worried glances my way but I was too busy listening to my own heart beat drum repeatedly against my chest to meet her eye to eye. I couldn't say what she wanted from me or why she kept glancing at me sideways, but I knew it was connected to my father. Everything has always revolved around him since day one.

As much as I wanted to scramble away from this wretched place, I couldn't bring my body to move. I stood as still as a rock, gaping at the whole event in regret.

Taking a deep breath, I turned around. Two bulky warriors then appeared right in front of me. Hands on top of one another while they stare down at me threateningly. Warning me not to go through what I had planned just recently in my mind. Their eyes were watching me like two dangerous beasts that are ready to pin me down if I even tried moving an inch where I delicately stood.

I gulped, shaking uncontrollably as I slowly backed up to the same spot I was supposed to be standing at.

Why didn't I just run from this bloody pack a long time ago? What made me endure it? Why did I hold onto the hope that they will see me as an equal, rather than a human or the cursed blood wolf? Someone worthy of love and respect, if not admiration?

“Don’t even dream about it, you little mut!"

"You are nothing, Eleanor. Do not forget. You will always be nothing.’

Barbara's words she delivered in a mocking tone about a year ago came rushing back into my mind. They had been the ones who were persistent in shoving into me their views about my very existence, especially at times when they see me being vulnerable and miserable in my own home. I've had my chances a couple of times before, yet I chose to stay. For what? For the hope that I could still win back the love of my people if I just closed my eyes and waited for them to come to their damn senses? I should've known better than to stay in this shithole, if only I knew my father's intentions a little earlier before today.

The feeling of hopelessness began to swirl in my stomach. It felt almost nauseating. My heart thudded violently against my chest in rapid speeds. Unwilling to slow down its pace no matter how much I willed it to.

Returning my gaze to the crowd, I noticed Sabrina had disappeared from plain sight. I couldn't help but wonder where she went. If she’s hurt by me leaving as much as I know I am going to miss her, despite the fact she avoided me all these years.

Sighing, I let my gaze travel over to Alpha Alexander who now stood in front of my father.

I watched as Dad and Alexander shook their hands to acknowledge the pact.

In that moment, Ares shifted uncomfortable inside my head.

“This is bad. Your father wants to pass the curse on to the enemy pack before we turn eighteen. This alliance is just a trick!” Ares growled.

My heart raced. A million times faster.
