ELEANOR

I felt my body stir on the bed and suddenly, my eyes were forced open at the sound of vague whispers. Even now, I can hear it like she was still there, whispering into my ear.

“Leave, Eleanor. Leave before it's too late,’ She'd whispered the words into my ear as I stared at myself in the mirror of the dressing room that day. She was there too. Her curly red hair contradicted her empty grey eyes. I'd wondered whether it was her natural color. Her reflection showed she was standing a little far from me although I could feel her breath pressing against my ear. Like the surging wind signaling a time of despair about to transpire. Through me.

I had stared back into her gray eyes that didn't seem to look directly at mine. Instead, her eyes stared seemingly through me. Into a dark space. Spinning around, I had waved my hand in front of her face, only to see no response of any sort. That was when I realized—she was blind.

My hand had still been waving in the air when Linda had abruptly grabbed my wrist, making me jump up in fright.

'A war is brewing. You need to go. It's too dangerous.’ Her lips quivered as she whispered. Her blind, empty silver eyes desperate. She was shaking and I had to grip onto her shoulder to help her maintain balance.

Furrowing my brows, I stared silently at her as she continued to whisper the same words. Over and over.

At the exact moment when I had placed my hand on hers because her nails painfully began to dig into my wrist, she shot her eyes up to me and gasped.

“I could see..." She whispered yet again.

I stumbled back, staring at her feeling incredulous.

“What do you see?" My growing curiosity forced my lips open and I just had to ask.

She went still for a few seconds, her eyes wide open with horror and extreme, raging fear.

“What do you see, Linda?" As I took small, fragile steps towards her, I felt as though my heart would rise like a bile out of my mouth with its extremely rapid beating.

She pointed a finger at me and said, “Death!’

My breathing stopped. My heart crumbled I felt my chest tightening inside me. I couldn't breathe. What was strange, though, was the way her voice sounded. The sound of two mixed voices of a gruff man and soft woman, which I believe the latter belonging to Linda. But the other... It sounded almost demonic.

I groped for something behind me once my butt hit the vanity table. Something...Anything I could use as a weapon to defend myself in case she turns into a hairy, mongering beast.

I managed to grab a hair curler laying atop the table near a tiny make-up set.

“Great!’ frowning, I thought to myself.

Right now Linda kept staring at me with owl-like eyes. A vibration oozing off her and the vibration seemed to be waving towards me. There was something with the way she looked into my eyes. It felt as though she can see right through me. As if...she knows.

I gasped at the unanticipated revelation, pointing the edge of the curler towards Linda who stood at mere meters in front of me.

“How do you know?’ I managed to utter barely through a whisper.

“How do you know... about the curse?” Chewing my lower lip, I traveled my gaze over to her. All my hair stood on end, and I couldn't seem to tear my gaze off her. Linda's pointed finger trembled violently and, in a few seconds, her body began to convulse. Her eyes rolled back to her head and the next moment, she dropped her eyes and hand to the floor.

Her shoulders twitched, making my heart stop beating for one moment. All I could see now was her squared shoulders and bowed head, refusing to gaze into me once again.

What happened?

I gulped, suddenly aware of my parched throat. Rather than giving me a response, she snapped her head up, checking her surroundings.

I stood there, stunned. Her face had said it all.

Dread. Confusion. Fear.

However, the moment she locked her eyes on me it was fear that dominated the mixed emotions reflecting from her silver eyes. A great deal of fear that told me to run.

Run away, and never come back.

I sat up on my bed, sweeping a few strands of hair behind my ear as I brought my knees to my chest. I buried my forehead on my knees. Rocking myself in slow motion. The chills I felt back at Linda's extravagant store came rushing back and going up my spine.

“Ellie?’

I should've known. I was stupid to think I can stay here longer than I should.

And then there's my father's pending case. My brilliant idea of sweet revenge that did nothing more than prolong the duration of my stay in my father's rival pack. Rather than giving me even a tiny bit of satisfaction from the petrified look on my parents’ faces, I felt as though I had complicated things a little too much than I anticipated.

“Little?” Ares asked, a little too sarcastically and I rolled my eyes.

“Fine. A lot." I mumbled to myself and Ares.

“That's right. But aren’t you forgetting something? She asked.

Lifting my head above my knee, I stared at the cold white wall in front of me. I knitted my brows tightly together, trying to ramble through my memory checking whether anything hadn't been put in place.

“What do you mean? What am I forgetting?’ I continued staring at the wall as if I was looking at my own wolf at the very moment.

She shook her head and huffed, “Oh, I don't know. Maybe you haven't even thought that in a few minutes, it's our birthday?’

I gasped, shooting my gaze over at the clock situated high up the wall. My eyes widened, and I find myself clenching the bedsheet on my sides.

I was too preoccupied worrying about that bloody incident with Linda that I completely forgot. Gulping, I studied my surroundings. My heart raced incredibly fast. Faster than my small body could take it.

Just then, Linda's words came running back into my mind like a strong flood. Not too long after, I felt as though I was drowning. The feeling of your legs being pulled by some sort of force or creature residing within the waters. And in a split second, the feeling of being poured by a bucket of ice cold water. Only difference was the pouring never stops. The ice cold rushing water continues to pour into my body, and soon I felt as though I was sitting right under a huge waterfall during winter.

Every part of my body trembled, every inch of my skin turned into stone, yet delicate. However, something else seemed to take place deep inside me. I wasn't exactly sure whether it was the cold, or my own fear that was pushing my body to crumble.

Clenching the sheets in my hand tighter than ever, I gritted my teeth. Scolding myself for my poor ability to stay focused on one simple goal.

“When the clock strikes twelve, we can't stop what's about to happen next.’ Ares whispered. Her voice sounded as if she didn’t want to believe those words herself. I sighed, shutting my eyes before saying, “It's just like Linda said, it's time—"

My words were immediately cut off when I felt a jolt of lightning strike my body all of a sudden. It shocked me enough to make me let out a painful gasp. I could hear Ares’ howls, but they were distant. It was like I had been separated from her and our thoughts were no longer combined. The excruciating pain made me groan and scream from the top of my lungs. For some reason I find myself curling into a ball on the cold, hard floor. I must have landed on my back when I felt the excruciating jolt of lightning hit me. I groaned. My head spinning whilst my senses weakened. Right now, I couldn't see nor hear anything other than pitch black and the sound of my heart racing a million miles a second.

“LUNA! OPEN THE DOOR!"

I was vaguely aware of my surroundings but I haven't even noticed someone was banging at my door extremely loudly.

"ELEANOR!"

A few moments later, I sensed something fly across the room. My arms felt as though they were being squeezed tightly, but the pain combined with the ice cold feeling inside wouldn't let me see or feel anything other than that.

Pain.

Then, I seemed to fall into oblivion as I couldn't make sense of the world around me anymore.
