Chapter Sixty–Four: Aiden’s Anger

Kiara’s POV:

Aiden’s cold demeanour struck me like a lightning bolt, his steely gaze boring into mine. The atmosphere around us felt heavy, the tension thick and palpable. His face was hardened, his jaw taut as if he was grinding his teeth. Aiden, my childhood friend, the boy–next–door type, was mad and hurting.

My heart pounded in my chest as his gaze flitted down to my neck, resting on the mating marks proudly displayed there. His blue eyes. darkened considerably, filled with a cocktail of emotions I couldn’t quite decipher.

Seeing him like this, so utterly distressed, was unsettling. The usually cheerful and carefree Aiden was nowhere to be seen. In his place stood a man burdened by a whirlwind of emotions.

“Aiden…” I began, not entirely sure of what I was going to say. But he cut me off before I could even finish.

“Kiara, look at me,” Aiden’s voice was firm, yet his eyes were swirling

with raw, unfiltered emotions.

I complied, locking my gaze with his. He seemed to be searching for something in my eyes, something that he couldn’t find.

“You don’t understand. They’re…they’re just using you. The bond… it seems all nice and warm now, but it will pass, Kiara. They’ve been with countless women before. They can’t change overnight.”

His words stung like a slap to my face. Hearing such harsh words coming from Aiden was completely unexpected. The look of hurt in his eyes was heartbreaking, but his words were laced with venom. But deep down, I knew he was right about the multiple women things. It was a conversation I had yet to have. I thought I’d let it go, but the way they spoke tonight about their feelings for me and the mate bond gave me a different perspective. If they genuinely felt how they said they did, then who were those women I saw hanging off them over the years?

“Aiden,” I began, my voice barely above a whisper. Even if I had my doubts, I couldn’t let someone else think it was okay to talk about it in front of me.

“I…I don’t know what you’re trying to achieve here, but I love them. And they love me, too.” I said, my voice even despite stammering in the beginning.

His laugh was hollow, devoid of any humour.

“Love?” He spat the word as if it was something distasteful.

12.024.

“You think they can love? Kiara, you’re living in a fantasy. You’re so blinded by this new life of yours, this queen title, that you can’t see the reality.” He spat venomously.

My heart pounded in my chest as his words echoed in the silence. His accusations were unwarranted and hurtful, but I couldn’t ignore the ache in my heart at his words.

“You have no idea what you’re talking about, Aiden,” I finally managed to say, my voice choked with hurt.

His gaze hardened, and for a moment, all was silent, the tension between us as tangible as the cool tiles beneath our feet. The harsh, unforgiving light from the bathroom fixtures cast a grim pallor over Aiden’s features, accentuating the hardened set of his jaw and the determined glint in his blue eyes.

His next words were so soft, so filled with raw emotion that they barely registered in my reeling mind.

“Maybe, but remember this, Kiara,” he said, his voice low and intense, reverberating through the quietude.

“I loved you, even when I thought you had another mate out there. Out of respect for that. Tell me, Kiki, have you seen me with other women

ever?”

The weight of his admission hung heavy in the air between us. His words, so charged with a desperate kind of yearning and resignation,

struck me like a physical blow. This was not the light–hearted, jovial Aiden that I had grown up with. This was a man with a heart burdened by unrequited feelings and a mind tormented by what he saw as my delusion.

It was a bitter pill to swallow. Aiden had known me since I was twelve, watched me grow, been there through my triumphs and tears. We shared memories and experiences, our friendship a tapestry of shared laughter, late–night talks, and comforting silences. We had been inseparable, our bond deep and enduring.

And now, here he was, bearing his heart to me in a cold, sterile hallway, his emotions tainting our shared past with shades of unrequited love. I was at a loss, my mind racing to process the implication of his words.

“Aiden…” I began, my voice barely more than a whisper, drowned in the echo of his admission.

He held up his hand, stopping me before I could continue.

“Kiara, I’m not asking for anything. I just….. I needed to say it.” His voice was weary, the facade of his anger crumbling away, revealing the raw hurt underneath.

“And now that you’ve said it?” I asked, my voice trembling slightly.

He looked at me, his eyes sad yet resolute.

“Now, I need to accept it, live with it. But Kiara…” His voice broke off, his gaze intense,

“I won’t stand by and watch them play with your heart. You deserve better.”

His words hung in the air between us, a silent testament to his feelings, his fears. And as I stood there, facing the friend who had loved me in silence, a deep sense of sorrow and helplessness washed over me. My heart ached for Aiden, for the pain he was going through, for the friendship that was now marked by unrequited love.

But amidst all the emotional turmoil, one thing was crystal clear – Aiden was still my friend, a part of my past, and no matter how much he disagreed, I knew in my heart that Kayden and Jayden were my present and my future. As much as it hurt, I had to make Aiden. understand that.

“Aiden,” I said, my voice steady despite the anger and disbelief coursing through me.

“You have absolutely no right to belittle my feelings for my mates.”

He flinched, his dark eyes momentarily filled with shock. I wasn’t sure what he was expecting – meek submission, perhaps? I wouldn’t back down, not when it came to defending the love I held for my mates.

“Do you hear yourself, Aiden?” I pushed on, my voice growing colder with every word.

“You’re standing here, trying to convince me that the Kings of our kingdom the men I love, the men I am mated to are unworthy of me.”

–

–

His eyes narrowed, a defensive retort forming on his lips. But I didn’t give him a chance to speak.

“Your disregard for my feelings is abhorrent enough,” I continued, my words dripping with disdain.

“But to disrespect your Alpha Kings in such a manner…it’s unfathomable, Aiden.”

He clenched his jaw, his eyes flashing with a myriad of emotions I couldn’t decipher. Regret? Frustration? Disbelief? Perhaps all of them. Yet, his next words made my blood boil.

“You’re mistaken, Kiara,” he said, his voice filled with a conviction that sent a chill down my spine.

“They’re not worthy of you. They don’t deserve you. They can’t possibly love you as much as I do.”

My heart pounded in my chest, my anger flaring. How dare he insult my love for the twins! How dare he question their love for me!

“This isn’t some temporary fascination, Aiden!” I retorted, the tremor in my voice revealing the intensity of my emotions.

“This is love. A bond forged by the goddess herself And you belittling my feelings for them only reveals your disrespect towards your own Alpha Kings!” I said.

Before I could utter another word, Aiden lunged towards me. This hands shot out, capturing my arms in an iron grip and pressing me against the wall. The action was so sudden, so aggressive that for a moment, I was left stunned..

His dark eyes bore into mine, his breaths coming out in harsh pants. The anger was clear in his gaze, yet there was something else. An emotion I couldn’t quite decipher. It frightened me, sending icy tendrils of fear down my spine.

But just as I was about to renet, a low, threatening growl echoed in the corridor. It was a sound I recognized instantly the primal growl of an Alpha. It was a growl that promised dire repercussions, a terrifying rumble that reverberated off the walls, making my heart pound in my chest. And I knew, without a shred of doubt, who it belonged to.
