Chapter 10

Alpha Raze’s words still have me in a bind. Is it really possible for me to live in a pack filled with warriors who have only been trained to kill and conquer? It might be possible but it isn’t plausible. The food and the reception might be good but it doesn’t change the fact that the pack abs the man that rules over it are dangerous. There is no way I can stay here. I take a napkin off the table to clean the sides of my mouth. I was already full and even if I wasn’t, his words are enough to fill me to the brim. Like I didn’t hear him the first time, I ask him again, “You are going to keep me here?” “Yes, Amber. Till the investigation is done then we’d know what to do with you.” He says with all seriousness. “How long will that take?” I ask. Alpha Raze relaxes in his seat. As he does, I watch how his muscles flex in his right t-shirt. And when he realizes a finger to run it through his buzz beards, I follow the movement warily. It is crazy how the Alpha terrifies and intrigues me all at once. There is this pull I feel to him that I haven’t felt with even Reece who was my mate before I rejected him. Thinking about him and the sinister look in his eyes when he lied to my father and the rest of the pack that I had been whoring around, makes my heart ache again. The Alpha pulls me out of my thoughts when he taps on his chin repeatedly as if in deep thoughts. The long pause has me on edge as I wait for him to let up. “A month? Two? Six?” His voice is laced with uncertainty. “Six months?” “At the most.” He adds and smiles tenderly at me. I can’t stay here for six months. Who knows what will happen in those months of me staying back here while they investigate? Why did I run into this pack when I could have run to other packs? To be fair, I know a lot of Alpha daughters who could help me with a roof over my head for a few days. Some of them had even attended the ceremony a few days ago. Lyna may be a sly b itch but I could have begged her to help me. Anything but actually run into a pack full of warrior wolves like this one. Now, I’m stuck. Stuck here with absolutely no idea if I will ever get out of here. But isn’t it better than being back home? Home where you are nothing but a punching bag for Reece and your father. My subconscious gnawed at me and I hate that it’s right but it still doesn’t make being in the presence of a ruthless Alpha better than anything else. At home, I’ll be beaten to a pulp but at least they have enough decency to know when to stop lest I die but here, things can take a turn if something goes wrong and am framed to be a spy like they think. “Please, I am not a spy. I beg you, let me go. I won’t cause you any trouble.” I plead with Alpha Raze but it doesn’t seem like the Alpha is moved by my pleas. “Where would you go anyway? Weren’t you banished from your pack?” Alpha Raze stated the hard and painful truth that I really had nowhere to go after being tossed out of the pack by my father. “Yes.” My answer comes out estranged to show that there is no point arguing with the Alpha about my situation. I am really stuck in the Nightwalkers pack. “Remember, Amber. I won’t hurt you. No one here will hurt you as long as you remain here, do you understand me?” He demands and I nod slowly, willing myself to believe Alpha Raze is saying the truth. “Well then, you can keep eating your food.” I am already too full to continue eating no matter how sumptuous the food is. “I am full. Thank you for the meal, Alpha.” I say. “Are you sure you do not want to eat more?” He says. Why is he being so kind to me? I can’t seem to understand how a man who is as feared as him is this tender with me when I had expected him to hurt me. Alpha Raze is the complete opposite of everything I have heard about him and the only story people seem to get right is the fact that is how absolutely dashing and dreamy he is. “Amber?” Thear him call at first but it sounds too distant as if he is so far away from me. “Amber?” He calls again and this time he jerks me out of my thoughts. “I’m sorry.” I quickly apologize, afraid that he will be mad at me for zoning out

but instead he chuckles and pushes his chair backward so he can stand. He walks towards me and I grip the sides of my chair tight as every step it takes causes me to fear what his plans are for me. Alpha Raze stops in front of me and he suddenly crouches so that I look down at him while he looks up at me. It is surreal for me to look down at a man who is wayyyy taller than I am, like he is below me in every way. “What are you doing?” I ask with so much uncertainty. “Trying to see what you are thinking about.” He answers simply. I gulp, not in a way knowing what he means, “Why?” “Because I don’t want you to think about anything or anyone else but me. From now on Amber, I want to be the only thing that goes on in that pretty head of yours.” He says softly. His voice and eyes keep me in a trance as he stares up intensely at me. I can’t make sense of his words and why he demands that from me but somehow, I nod as if under a spell. “Use your words, Amber. Let me hear you say it.” He demands. “You. Just you.” I affirm even if I do not think I need to be told what to do when it comes to him. He has already drowned my head with thoughts of him and nothing more. “Good girl.” He whispers. When he stands, his hands briefly graze mine where I have them placed on the edges of my seat and it feels like electricity jolts through me as a result of the feathery touch. Alpha Raze stands fully and grins knowingly like he knows what he has done to me. I blame all of the strange feelings I have been getting with him on the fact that I am an Omega and my period of heat is probably really close. I can feel it. I just hope I am able to hold it in till I can leave the Nightwalkers pack. “Since you are done eating, you can go back to the room assigned to you. The maid will escort you back.” He says, “Goodnight, Amber.” He says and lets his tender gaze longer on me for a little more before he turns around and walks away while I watch his broad back till he disappears and I can’t see him anymore. And I know for sure that I won’t be able to sleep a wink tonight. Not because I have found myself in a dangerous territory but because the thoughts of the man thought to be the most dangerous Alpha will surely keep me up all night. The man who makes me feel protected for the very first time.
