I break out of the woods into the open field by the packhouse when Malachi runs past me. I run faster, trying to catch him, but he is faster than me. “Show off," I growl, rolling my eyes.

I make it to the yard, slowing to a walk as I come through the gate to see Amelia and Paul sitting on the porch swing. We have the same sense of humor," I tell her, smiling. I crack the beers open and start to walk back to the group when Amelia stops me by grabbing my arm. I turn to face her. "What's wrong?” I ask, looking at her, confused. "I need to tell you something,” She hesitates, looking to the ground. "Well, what is it?" I question, grabbing her shoulders, forcing her to look at me. She finally makes eye contact and is sporting a grave expression.

"I saw Malachi's ex here tonight, and I saw her talking with him,” Amelia explains, giving me a look of concern. "The blonde?"...
