Chapter 78

Bethany's POV

He's stalling, I can see it in his actions, he is trying so hard to act normal but I can see the nervous look on his face. He is trying to hide something from me, I'm sure he is. From the look on everybody's faces, I could tell that they all knew what he is doing as well, the only difference is that they have an idea of what he is hiding from me, or should I say they know exactly what he is hiding from me. I thought we have moved past all this, I thought he would never lie to me, but it seems like he is never going to trust me completely. I can't believe that even after mating with him, he still doesn't trust me. He had been so furious when he found out that Harriet was asking me to hide things from him. He had threatened to bring down thunder and brimstone on her, but all too suddenly he decided to push the matter aside and focus on our other mission. He had wanted to solve this Harriet's issue and find out what is truly happening, but now he wants it to wait and he pushed it aside he claims that it is not important anymore, saying that the most important thing right now is to get king Ashford to believe that Harriet and I are following his instructions and carrying out his mission.

I pretended not to suspect anything, I acted like everything is okay, and I went along with his plans, pretending to understand his lousy explanation. Dominic instructed his warriors to double the guards on patrol because he is having a meeting with Carl and Dwayne. He warned them not to interrupt his meeting or face the consequences. He did this to send a message to the mole, he doesn’t want them to find out that he is preparing a counterattack. Harriet made the call to king Ashford, telling him that king Dominic is having a meeting in his office tonight, so the mission will be carried out in the morning. If he calls his moles to confirm her story, they would say the same thing because that is what they were made to believe. We both went back to our room, leaving the guys to hold their pretend meeting. The tech guy was still working on the software, he looks like he knows what he is doing, I just hope it works exactly the way he said it would. I anything goes wrong, King Dominic would lose a lot of files and the mole that he asked to keep an eye on Harriet's father would be instructed to take him out. I wonder why he chose to take such a huge risk when the best action would have been to go over to the Alphas lodge and see if Harriet's father is truly in danger. We can take him out of there before they pull the trigger on him., we can stop him and then carry out our plans like we wanted to, but now he is changing all our previous plans because he is trying to hide one stupid secret from me. If only he knows that he is simply wasting his time and efforts. I won't let him push me aside, I would find out what he is hiding from me with or without his approval.

“So what next, what do we do now?” she asked me when we got inside Dom's room, I mean our room.

“Why didn't you tell me?” I asked her back, ignoring her question. We both know that there is nothing to do now, except to wait for the tech guy to finish creating the software and call us back in to begin our own part of the job. I guess she just wants to break the silence between us, that's why she asked such a rhetorical question. But I'm not having it this way, I just can't let it slide. I trusted her with everything, I told her everything and we worked together trying to prove my innocence when Dominic kicked me out of his house. I trusted her with everything, I told her everything that was going in between Dominic and I, but when it got to her turn, she tried to trick everyone and do it herself. I can understand why she wouldn't tell Dominic about it, she was just trying to save her father, and she knew he would never have allowed her to go on with he plans. But she could have come to me with her problems she could have told me the truth. I would never have judged her, I would have understood her reasons and I would have given her some time to figure something out before reporting to Dominic. I'm sure it would affect her reputation, he would never see her the way he used to, and he would never trust her completely just as he doesn't trust me. I would have comforted her, just the way she comforted me when I needed someone to talk to. But she hadn't trusted me enough, she had chosen to work alone and trick me into helping her instead of telling me the truth. Something tells me that she would have gotten me into trouble if Dominic had not come in on time. That didn’ sit well with me, it had hurt my feelings and I have to let her know that I'm pissed at her for making such decisions,

“Was it because of something I did, have I done something to make you distrust me?" I asked her once more but she wouldn't say one word to me in response. She looks sullen, I guess she feels guilty for trying to use me.

“I'm so sorry Bethany, I have no excuse for what I did. I wasn't thinking straight, I was just so confused Beth. I would never have let you do it, I would never have let you get hurt, I promise.” She told me softly, sounding sincere. But still couldn't believe her words, she had let me down.

“And what if Dominic had not walked in and overheard you, would you have cajoled me into following his orders, would you have kept quiet and watched me do it?"

“Of course not Beth, I would never have let you do it, I swear. I only wanted you to stall for me and give me some time to fing out what is really going on. You have to believe me, I would never betray king Dominic, I would never do anything to hurt you or Carl, I promise. I would have told you the truth eventually, I just needed more time to understand what was happening” She explained calmly, trying to get me to believe her. I believe her now, I can see the honesty in her eyes, besides I know she would never do anything to hurt Carl, she loves him too much to hurt him. I decided to use this opportunity to find out the truth from her, I know she won't tell me, but I have to at least try, right,

“Are you sure you are telling me the whole truth, Harriet?” I asked her with a corked eyebrow.

“What are you talking about Beth, I told you everything already?"

“Really Harriet, are you sure you have told me everything?

Come on girl, I know Dominic is hiding something from me and I also know that you know about it. He canceled the trip to the Alphas court for a reason, I know you know what is going on, please tell me, Harriet, I really want to know!” I pleaded wit her giving her my best pity face. From the look on her face, I could see that I was right, after all, Dominic is definitely hiding something from me and whatever it is, it is very serious. The look on Harriet's face says it all.

“Bethany, I have no idea what you are talking about, but if there is something King Dominic is not telling you, then trust me, he has a reason for it. Whatever it is, he will tell you when he thinks it is the right time” She told me pointedly.

“So in summary, you know what it is, but you are not going to tell me because king Dominic doesn't want you to tell me right?”

“Bethany, don't push it, let it go already. Believe me, you don't want to know what it is yet, you don’t want to know, trust me. She said pleadingly, begging me to let it go, but all she did is to create more suspicion within me. What on earth could he be hiding from me, what could it be, why would she tell me that I don't want to know about it, is it that serious?

Now I'm not just curious, I'm desperate to know what this big secret is. I must find out about it, I can’t be kept in the dark anymore, he can't keep treating me like a f*****g child, if he truly loves me as he claims, he should tell me everything I need to know.
