Chapter 917

"Uncle."

Uncle?

Did he hear it wrong?

Is Sylvia really calling him?

Clare's mind went blank, and all his nerves tightened instantly. He felt a rush of excitement flowing through his body.

He didn't know if it was a momentary lapse of reason or what, but he reached out and was about to embrace Sylvia. But someone else acted faster than him. A long arm appeared out of nowhere and pulled Sylvia away from him. Clare was left feeling lonely.

"Mr. Hipps seems very happy," said the deep voice that carried the silence of the hallway, hooking Clare's heartstrings.

Damn... Why is Franklin so annoying?

Why does he act like an enemy in love?

He's Sylvia's uncle. What's wrong with hugging her?

Clare sobered up a bit from his overwhelming joy and excitement. His eyes were filled with happiness as he asked, "Sylvia... Sylvia... Are we family now?"

Looking at Clare's ecstatic expression, Sylvia couldn't help but smile too.

Under the light, Clare's handsome features became even more otherworldly. Especially when he smiled so happily with those smiling eyes staring straight at her; it made Sylvia feel joyful too. She breathed a sigh of relief; she had relatives now too...

This feeling is really strange...

Maybe this is what blood ties are like...

She thought silently to herself.

Franklin felt happy for her but also somewhat afraid because she suddenly had many more relatives who might take her away from him.

Anyway, it was still good news.

"I'm so happy that I don't know what to do! How about I treat everyone to karaoke?" Suddenly Clare suggested something very down-to-earth while rubbing his hands together. "Is there any KTV nearby? Or maybe nightclubs or clubs? Anything goes."

He wasn't familiar with this area after all.

"Singing together will be lively," said Sylvia who was willing to indulge in Clare's enthusiasm. She looked at Franklin and added. "Let's call Brayden and Jenna out as well."

"Oh right! Let's invite Evie and Jasper over too! Everyone can have fun together playing dice!"

The more they talked about going singing at KTV together, the better idea sounded. Sylvia continued. "Let's go then!"

Franklin didn't object either. He started calling Brayden and Jasper. After sending them messages, Franklin turned back towards them, saying, "Alright then. Let's go sing karaoke."

K-LEADER is a well-known KTV spot in Larro, with business always booming thanks to its high-end decor and top-of-the-line drinks and beverages. That's why Larro locals love to gather their friends here for a night of karaoke.

Recently, Katie has been filming in Larro. After wrapping up her shoot today, she decided to come here with her fellow cast members for some singing fun. With so many people from the crew, she had hoped to book the largest private room available at K-LEADER. However, the manager told her that it had already been reserved by someone else and could only offer a slightly smaller room.

Katie was disappointed but knew that going elsewhere would be beneath her status as a Mcguire Group heiress. She was starring in a low-budget web series adapted from one of the top-ranking sites on the internet - not exactly an A-list production - but still felt entitled enough to demand better treatment.

"I'll pay double," she said firmly to the manager.

"I'm sorry miss," replied the manager apologetically. "Someone else booked it first; we can't go back on our word."

Katie's face flushed with embarrassment at being denied again. "I'll pay triple!"

The manager shook his head. "I'm afraid I can't do that either."

Feeling humiliated by everyone around her who seemed amused by this situation, Katie called up Kareem immediately. "Hey, Kareem! Can you help me find K-LEADER's boss? I need him or her to book me their biggest private room!"

Kareem just got back home after work at the Mcguire Group when he received Katie's call, asking for such an absurd request. He thought sarcastically about how stupid his cousin could be sometimes... But he kept his cool and replied calmly. "Sure thing; give me a minute."

As luck would have it, Kareem knew K-LEADER's CEO personally since they were both part of national chains themselves! He made sure no one saw him making such an embarrassing phone call before dialing up his contact three minutes later.

"Hello there... it's Kareem Mcguire calling... yes... I know this might sound ridiculous but my cousin wants your biggest private room tonight..."

Meanwhile, Katie waited anxiously on hold until finally hearing Kareem say.

Kareem's lazy voice came through, "Katie, his phone is off. He's probably resting. Why don't you go play in another store?"

Katie was feeling proud, thinking that Kareem could definitely help her out. But when she heard what Kareem said, she was dumbfounded.

She felt a burning sensation on her face.

The director knew that Katie was always competitive and eager to win, but did they really need the private room? He had no choice but to persuade her, "Miss Mcguire, we can use the second private room instead. Shall we go in?"

If they kept delaying like this, it would be late at night soon. They still had filming tomorrow. Wasn't it a waste of time just for a private room?

They could only compromise and enter the other private room with their group.

But Katie still felt uncomfortable, thinking who took away her biggest private room. Even if she offered more money to the manager, he wouldn't accept it!

She was so angry!

As soon as she entered the new private room with everyone else Franklin and Sylvia arrived.

Franklin had reserved the largest VIP suite while on his way here; after booking it, the manager waited for them at the entrance all along.

As soon as Franklin got out of his car with his people following him closely behind him; the manager rushed over respectfully, greeting him and saying, "Mr Maskelyne, welcome. Please come this way." After ordering some drinks and snacks in their new VIP suite, everyone settled down comfortably, while the manager left graciously bowing out of respect for them.

Just as he exited, he saw Katie walking out from next door, looking unhappy with a sour expression on her face; they heard loud noises coming from outside followed by Brayden walking towards them holding hands with Jenna.

Katie froze momentarily as if having missed a beat within herself.

Brayden looked handsome, wearing casual beige clothing, paired up with white sneakers, giving off an effortless yet stylish vibe, while talking quietly into Jenna's ear, making light conversation and causing faint smiles to appear across both their faces.

Katie stood there stunned, ignoring Jenna completely, focused only on Brayden himself, causing him to furrow his brows, wondering what was wrong with this woman.

Why was she staring at him like that?

Jenna noticed Brayden's strange gaze and looked over to see a pretty woman staring at him. The woman seemed familiar, maybe her name was Miss Mcguire? Jenna wondered to herself.

As they approached, Katie's soft voice could be heard saying, "Mr. Wright, long time no see."

Brayden found her clingy tone nauseating. Katie had been bothering him since school and still hadn't given up on him.

Last time she called Brayden "senior," he slapped her in the face. This time she didn't dare call him that affectionately.

"Long time no see, my friend is waiting for me so I'll go in first." Brayden didn't bother with her and pushed open the door of the largest private room before leading Jenna inside. Damn it!

Katie was already annoying enough but now his cold attitude had provoked her even more.

Wait a minute... this largest private room belonged to him? Did he book it?

But... wasn't he in Urgford? How did he come back to Larro?

When did he come back?

Katie's mind was a mess as she tried to figure out what was going on. She couldn't let Jenna keep monopolizing him all night long. Thinking this way made Katie squint slightly as Jasper walked by with Evie and saw Katie slip into another private room from behind.

Jasper felt like there was something familiar about that person but didn't think too much of it at the moment.

Everyone finally arrived and Sylvia was very happy because everyone knew each other already so there wasn't any need for introductions anymore.

"Oh my god! It really is your uncle?" Evie exclaimed in shock when she heard about it from Sylvia

Jenna looked envious; finding one's own relatives must be great luck indeed. She wondered if she would ever have such luck herself...

Maybe not... she had given up hope of finding any blood relatives by now.

Anyway, since she would soon marry into the Wright family, they would become her family then too after all...

She wouldn't be lonely anymore either way...

But still, deep down inside, Jenna felt envious!

Just then, someone pushed open the door again, causing everyone's attention to turn towards them. It turned out to be Katie holding a bottle of XO with a smile on her face as she said towards Brayden. "Mr. Wright, we were classmates after all; let's have a drink together, shall we?"

Jenna pouted unhappily. Why did this woman have such thick skin?

Katie had come to find Brayden, but as she took a closer look and saw who was in the private room, her face flushed with embarrassment.

"Damn it," she thought. "Sylvia and Franklin are here too?"

She felt stupid for not realizing they would be there. She wished she had never come.

The last person Katie wanted to see was Sylvia, along with Jasper! Seeing the name Howlett made her think of her sister-in-law Carolyn Howlett!
