Chapter 914

The appraisal result may have been destroyed now, and there was no way to show it to her.

After experiencing the Evans family's scheming, Sylvia had become very indifferent towards familial relationships. But she never expected Clare would come out and tell her all of this. It was impossible not to be shocked.

But after the initial shock passed, she felt a sense of unease in her heart. Yes, even she could feel uneasy and anxious at times. She didn't know whether or not to believe Clare, but seeing him cry like a child made her take this matter seriously and consider his ties with her as family.

So she held onto his big hand and said softly,"Mr. Hipps, if we really are related by blood, then this result is just icing on the cake. Even if the result has been destroyed now, it doesn't matter; we can do anothe one."

Clare looked at her silently as if he didn't recognize who she was anymore.

She could be cold or powerful sometimes but rarely gentle like this except when Franklin was around.

"Sylvia, let's go do it now," Clare said finally.

Sylvia looked at him before helping him up from the ground. "Alright, let's go to our hospital; I'll personally handle it."

"Can Lilypad General Hospital do it?" asked Clare in surprise.

"It's not open to public," Sylvia explained, "but they have DNA testing equipment even though they're not a professional appraisal institution."

Finally understanding what was going on here, Franklin couldn't help but feel embarrassed about his previous assumptions regarding Clare having some sort of romantic interest in Sylvia.

He was lost in thought when he saw Sylvia changing her shoes. Without hesitation, he followed suit.

Once outside, Clare had planned to drive but Mollie snatched the keys from her hand. "Let me drive, you sit next to me."

She didn't trust his emotional state and Clare didn't object as she took the passenger seat.

The two cars left the villa area one after another and slowly merged into traffic. Soon they were speeding towards Lilypad General Hospital.

Sylvia got out of her car and waited for them in the parking lot while Mollie followed behind them and parked as well. The four of them then entered the elevator together.

It was quiet inside with no one speaking, creating an inexplicably serious atmosphere. Sylvia led them all the way to the top floor of the hospital where neither Mollie nor Clare had ever been before, Franklin included.

There were very few people on this floor and it was eerily quiet throughout. The nurse at reception looked up when she saw Sylvia step out of the elevator and hesitated slightly before asking, "Dr. Sylvia, is there anything I can help you with?"

Sylvia pulled out an ID card and waved it at her saying. "I need to use some equipment for testing purposes."

The nurse quickly stood up saying. "Oh sure! Let me arrange that for you." She picked up a walkie-talkie saying. "Emma, Dr. Sylvia needs your assistance urgently!"

A short while later, a young nurse came running over, asking, "Dr. Sylvia, who will be taking part in this test? Please follow me so we can take some blood samples."

"I will be doing it with him," replied Sylvia pointing at herself then at Clare.

The young nurse led them down a corridor where she couldn't help but feel surprised by what was happening - everyone knew that Dr. Sylvia was Tammy's sister; they even heard rumors that they had different fathers or something like that!

Why would Dr. Sylvia personally conduct a paternity test between this gentleman and herself?

But she wasn't one to gossip or ask questions so instead she brought them straight to where they would have their blood taken along with other tests needed before conducting any paternity tests.

She worked quickly collecting samples from both Sylvia's hair strands as well as nail clippings which were more comprehensive than what Clare provided earlier - just a few drops of blood compared to everything else collected from Sylvia!

Afterwards, it was time for Clare's turn but her heart raced uncontrollably during every procedure...

He had always thought that Sylvia would not agree to the appraisal. Not only would she refuse, but she might also scold him. Now it seems... he was too nervous and worried.

The collection process went smoothly.

Afterwards, the nurse handed all the collected blood, hair, and nails to Sylvia.

Sylvia put on sterile clothing and said to Franklin, Clare, and Mollie outside the door. "Wait for me."

The nurse also put on sterile clothing as Sylvia's assistant.

Together they stepped into the laboratory.

Clare watched Sylvia disappear behind the closed door. He fell heavily onto a chair in exhaustion.

Mollie sat next to him and gently held his slender arm. "Since you are relatives, no matter what happens it will still be family in the end. So don't worry too much. Besides Miss Andrews is doing this appraisal personally; you should trust her even more."

Clare looked up at Mollie's beautiful face with his dark eyes. "I just didn't expect her to be so straightforward about offering to do an appraisal."

It was too shocking!

When she said they could do it again later, he felt like his brain was buzzing until now.

It was like hearing the most beautiful language in this world for him.

Franklin calmly looked at Clare searching for similarities between him and Sylvia on his face, as if trying to find something similar between them both, when thinking of how happy she would be when she finally has relatives of her own

He felt a little itchiness mixed with sourness in his heart. Whenever he thought about how someone else may steal away her attention or affection from him once she had relatives of her own

His forehead started hurting because there were already so many people competing for attention from Sylvia before knowing about their relationship

But then again, if she had relatives wouldn't there just be more people who loved her?

Clare seemed like someone who loved her very much after all...

In the laboratory...

Sylvia wiped off sweat from her face with a sleeve while observing numbers displayed by instruments intently without breathing as she manipulated them carefully one by one step-by-step until finally completing everything necessary before taking a deep breath out saying. "Let's go out first."

It took three hours for the analysis to come out. The hospital's equipment was state-of-the-art, so they didn't have to wait too long.

Sylvia opened the door and Clare stood up abruptly. Sylvia rubbed her forehead and looked down the long corridor. The bright lights illuminated everything in the hallway, making it silent yet cold.

She walked towards Clare and Franklin. Clare watched her figure as if she melted into the bright light, while his heart seemed to melt with every step she took in this silence.

"Sylvia... what's the result?" He moved his lips, feeling a dryness and tightness in his throat.

"It will take three more hours," Sylvia smiled reassuringly at Clare. "Didn't you say you've done this before? Are you afraid you aren't my uncle?"

Clare didn't know what he was afraid of himself - maybe those black-clothed men who were chasing him or perhaps he was just too scared of losing someone again - someone he loved most dearly like his sister before... If he lost her child now...

He would die for sure.

"I..." Clare didn't know how to respond. Although he was an elder, because of nervousness or something else entirely, his face turned pale with lowered eyelashes that made him look childish - like a kid who wanted a toy badly.

Sylvia couldn't help but tease him. "You're such a big man but acting like a little kid needing comfort from me! You're my uncle after all." She paused then added. "Don't be so attached to gains and losses; it'll make things easier for you."

Jasper came out from the elevator carrying several cups of coffee which he handed over to Franklin's group. Sylvia took one cup casually and drank some sips before thanking Jasper. "Thanks, Jasper." "It's just coffee; no need for thanks," Jasper replied with a faint smile on his face, then hesitantly said something to Franklin. "Mr. Franklin, I want to ask for leave today."

Franklin raised an eyebrow as he glanced at Jasper. "Why?"

"Uh..." Jasper coughed twice while blushing slightly. He turned away from them briefly, then looked back at Franklin after several seconds passed by. "... I need to pick up someone from the airport this afternoon."

Franklin teased him knowingly. "Evie is coming back, huh?"

As expected!

Jasper blushed even harder now. "She is small-sized and young; I'm worried she might get lost at the airport."

Sylvia was on the verge of bursting out laughing. "Jasper, when Evie was busy beating people with a hammer, you were still the school's heartthrob! How could she possibly get lost?"

"Well, um... I'll just go ahead." Jasper practically fled from Sylvia's laughter and didn't even wait for the elevator before darting into the nearby emergency exit.

Franklin shook his head helplessly.
