A vampire's Choice
Chapter 4

"WHO IS HE?"

Luke shouted at the void. For the first time in his life, a kill had gotten away. After the voice had told him to take her, she was saved by a white figure, a vampire at that.

Calm yourself.

The room was bare as Luke spun around, the source of the words invisible. Even with the darkened area, his eyes were so good; it looked like it was daylight. Crumbled wallpaper surrounded him with only a lone chair his total comfort. Since he took on this form, nothing mattered anymore, only the next kill engulfing his mind.

"Who. Is. He?" Luke questioned.

An old acquaintance.

Luke ran his hand through his hair in frustration. "Can you be more specific?"

The chair felt uncomfortable beneath him as he threw his body down, the need for answers washing over the need to move. Suddenly, a ball of white appeared before him. It was a usual sight, so he silently watched as it morphed into a human form. The light remained, so Luke could never catch the features of the being who directed him. All he did was watch as the man stepped closer to his hunched form, stopping inches from him.

His name is Roger.

Luke shifted his shoulders back, intrigued by the new information. "And why was he there?"

Sparks of light shot from the man as he moved about while Luke kept his gaze on him. The man might have helped him become who he was today, but he still did not trust him. Why is he helping him? Luke wondered.

I assume to save the girl.

"Who is she then?" it was getting more interesting.

I don't know, but she is special.

The lack of direct answers frustrated Luke, and he shot up, standing face to face with the man. His chest rose up and down as anger began to take over. "So, you used me?” He looked at where eyes would be if he were a man, his hands fisted.

Calm yourself, the man spoke. I was just merely testing a theory.

"So you did.” The thought of being a toy enraged him. "He nearly killed me, yet you did not stop him. If it was a test, it means you were there, watching." The more Luke thought about it, the angrier he got. Muscles bulged as his body shifted. Nails elongated, piercing his skin. The pain felt like home, and he welcomed it.

I was watching.

Luke roared the admission, and he launched out, swiping towards the figure. Pain exploded in his hand and arm as his claws moved through the formation. It was so powerful; it sent Luke to his knees as he cradled his injured arm against his chest. With his eyes closed, he absorbed the pain, letting it fuel his anger.

Who do you think you are?

In a flash, a whip of light shot from the man, wrapping itself around Luke's neck. His eyes shot open as it squeezed his neck, and slowly his body lifted in the air until his feet barely touched the ground. Luke's restricted airflow as the light pressed down on his neck at the same time burning into his soft flesh. The smell of burned skin filtered his senses, with the pain becoming excruciating.

I made you who you are today, so I can take it away just as quickly.

Luke's eyes bulged from their sockets as his skin turns blue. As his mouth fluttered open and close to breathe, his right hand moved to fight the light, but it only burned his fingers, forcing him to drop it to his side.

"So...rry," Luke wheezed out. Seconds before he would faint, the light let him go, and his body dropped to the floor. The pain lessened as he gulped the air, filling his lungs. When the coughing finally stopped, Luke looked up at the white figure through teary eyes.

"What is your will?" Luke inquired.

The man's shape lowered its body to come to the same level as Luke, Find the girl, and kill her.

"Gladly.” A smirk brushed Luke's face. "And what about the vampire?"

When you have him, I will find you and get what has been denied by me for centuries. The man stood up, and with a final glance down at Luke, he disappeared back into the ball of light before vanishing.

Luke remained on the floor as he gathered his breathing and senses. Since the beginning, he has hated working for this being. He would always be grateful for him for revealing his true nature. Since he was younger, he had always known he was different, and after that night in the park, Luke had been set free. Sure, he knew his mind is twisted, but he preferred it. Killing anyone and anything was part of his daily regime but having someone escape him angered him.

Muscles screamed as Luke rose, stretching his body until the ache dispersed. With a final glance at the empty room, Luke grabbed his jacket and headed to the door. First, he needed to kill something, anything, to get the anger out of him and clear his head. If he found this girl, he needed to focus, and only blood will allow him.
