A vampire's Choice
Chapter 34

Darkness washed over her as her senses faltered. No smell, hear, taste or feeling, Lisa was numb. Neither standing nor floating, she tried to look around, but it was blank. Is this what happens when you die? She thought to herself. For death had to be the only explanation for her situation. Raking her brain to find her last memory, the only thing popping up was blue and a bathroom, but the memory felt hazy. A sharp pain pierced her brain as she tried to focus on it, making her stop. Something is blocking her from figuring out, making her wonder if it was death or something else?

The black void molded her, swirling around the endless place. With defeat, she closed her eyes, hoping maybe she would wake up from this nightmare, just like the ones she had before. Only this time, it felt real but also not. At least she was glad the demon eyes and claws that always accompanied her nightmares were not visible, a small calming gesture in an otherwise horrible reality. The black that surrounded her could be seen behind her closed eyes, not even the usual white spots flaring up. This was true darkness.

Suddenly a soft glow filtered into her vision, making her snap open her eyes fast. In the far distance, a blue hue flickered, the same color she could remember from before. Willing her body closer, the flames slowly neared. If she was moving or the flame was moving, Lisa did not know. She was just relieved for a change from the black void. Her senses returned at a snail's pace as the heat from the blue flames swept over her body, a warm tingle that turns into a heated burner. The sound of clicking drifted to her ears as the fire crackled. No wind or other movements was making it shift, but she couldn't care less. Finally, the flames were before her. Reaching out, the blue hue cast light over her, confirming she still had a body. Searching around, hoping the new source of light would reveal her location, a stab of disappointment shook her when the darkness was still around. Looking back at the flames, their movement hypnotized her, and without meaning to, Lisa reached out and watched as the blue flames slicked her hand. Suddenly, the warmth turned to a burn when the fire latched onto her hand and moving up her arm. Letting out a painful scream, Lisa frantically shook her arm as she tried to kill the flames, but it persisted. The higher it climbed, the greater the pain became. Between the anguish, she noticed her skin was not burning, but the heat stopped her from thinking of the why. The flames reached her shoulder, and the loudest scream burst from her chest. Whatever the flames touch felt like knifes continuously stabbing her flesh. All she could do was watch it climb up her body, praying for it to end. If she was not dead before, she wished she was now.

Darkness swamped her vision once more when the blue flames disappeared into her body. The pain vanished with it. Looking down at her body, Lisa saw her skin emit a glow: a softer blue as the flame. Bending around to check her whole body, she confirmed it was everywhere.

"What is this?" Lisa questioned the open and, as expected, no answer. Lifting her palm, she watched in fascination as her palm lit up brighter, a small sphere forming over her opened hand. The ball grew as the light brightened, a strange sensation brushing over her skin. Somehow it felt familiar, like she was finally home. Sweeping her hand left and right, the movement of the ball followed her hand. Reaching her other hand out, she lightly trailed a finger around the edge of the ball, a shock of power zapping her. Whatever it was, it was powerful. Testing the new trick, Lisa shot out her hand, mentally willing the blue sphere to shoot out as well. The power left her hand, flying into the abyss, knowing it would fizzle out, but instead, it crashed against an invisible wall, a blue spark erupting from the collision.

The change of scenery spirited Lisa as she willed her body closer to the wall. The blue sparks were still on the surface as they ran rampant across, forming what looked like a circle. Slowly lifting her hand, Lisa hesitated for a second before talking herself up to touch the wall. The sparks connected with her fingers the second she felt the warm surface, and light exploded. The darkness from before morphed into a scene between the circle, making her heart drop.

Before her, Lisa watched the horrifying treatment of her mate. Roger was bound to a pole, shirtless, and his usually pale skin a contrast to the blood smeared over his chest. The wall clashed with her face as she slammed into the surface trying to help him.

"No," Lisa released, slamming her fist against the image. Frustration boiled over as the situation worsened. She was not only trapped in whatever this place was, but the man she loved is being tortured, and she was useless to help him.

"Just give in.” A familiar voice spoke, one she has known since birth.

The image moved as Roger's figure came closer. The vantage change as the circle shifted to his front, and a hand shot out, grasping his chin and forcing him to look up.

"We could finally be together. Just give in,” the same voice pleaded.

Roger's face zoomed in his eyes, clashing with Lisa's, and her heart skipped a beat.

"Never," Roger muttered. "You are dead to me, Rebecca."

Hearing him say his exes name shocked Lisa, but what she spotted in the reflection of his white eyes shook her to her core and dramatically changed what she knew about the supernatural world.

In the white glossed of Roger's eyes was the image Lisa has seen millions of times: in photos and the mirror. Blond hair framing the soft face, blue and green eyes, and a devilish smirk spread across the mouth. Looking back at her was herself, her own body, which she was not in control of anymore.

Rebecca was.
